Black and White Explorations 1

It has been many years since I’ve worked in strictly black and white. Having always been so seduced by the colours of the place I am visiting, monochrome images, the sensuality and discovery that I derived from shooting in “mono”, were set aside many years ago.

I still remember the euphoric feeling I had when I would see some Velvia or Kodachrome film image of mine printed in Cibachrome. God the colour!

So it was a lot of fun recently to revisit that form of story-telling. Like reconnecting with a long lost old friend. One that is much more complex and intricate than I remembered.

Though not shot with my old favorites, Ilford Pan F, Kodak’s Panatomic F or TMAX (I do so miss the smells of the chemistry to process them) the challenges of telling a story in B & W are still the same.

This blog post is an exploration of travel photography as told in blacks and whites.
